Questions

Can you really map any address?

Any street address, city or ZIP code in the United States. Our maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap, the same open data many navigation apps use. You'll see the exact result before you pay.

My street is brand new. Will it show up?

Most new streets appear in the map data within weeks of being built, but a few lag behind. Check the live preview. If your street is missing, email us before ordering and we'll help.

Is this hand-painted?

No. Our illustration styles are drawn by software we built, from real street data, so every map is original and made in seconds. That's how we can offer illustrated art for any address at a fair price.

How are the house drawings made?

Our sketch styles were designed by Brian, the artist behind Inked Atlas, after his own drawings and artistic style. Each drawing of your house is made digitally from your photo in those styles, then lettered with your name and checked by us before it prints.

What photo works best for a house drawing?

A daylight photo from across the street with the whole house and roof in view, straight on or at a slight angle. Move cars out of the way if you can. Use your own photo, or one you have permission to use, not a Street View screenshot.

Can I order a drawing of someone else's home as a gift?

Yes. Use a photo you took or one they shared with you. If you don't have a photo, a map of their street makes a lovely gift too, and you only need the address.

What happens to my photo?

It stays private. We use it only to make your drawings, never as a sample, and we delete it after 30 days unless you order.

Can I move the map or zoom out?

Yes. Use Close, Neighborhood or Wide, and the arrows to shift the map. The marker stays on your exact spot.

What can my map be made into?

A framed print, a gallery canvas, an unframed fine art print (Print only) or a woven cotton throw. You pick in step 2 of the designer and can switch any time before checkout; the preview updates to match.

What paper and frames do you use?

Print only maps are printed edge to edge on archival matte fine art paper, so they fit a standard frame. Framed prints use the same paper, mounted flat on foam board, in a black, white or natural wood frame with acrylic glazing and a paper dust cover on the back. You can add a 2 inch mat in one of ten colors. They arrive assembled, with the hanging wire installed, ready to hang. Canvas is stretched over 1.5 inch bars with a matte finish and solid color sides, wire installed.

Tell me about the woven throws.

They're 100% cotton, woven on a jacquard loom by Pure Country in Lynn, North Carolina. The map is woven into the fabric rather than printed on it, so the colors are blended from the loom's cotton yarns and very fine detail softens a little. That's why throws have their own style and color choices made for the loom. Each one has a fringe in your colors and is machine washable (cold, gentle, tumble dry low). Two sizes: 54 × 70 and 60 × 80 inches. While you design, we show you the mill's own photos of your exact blanket.

How long does shipping take?

Unframed prints arrive in 5–9 business days, framed prints in 5–10 business days, and canvas in 5–10 business days, including printing time. Woven throws are made to order on the loom and arrive in 12–16 business days. Details.

What if it arrives damaged?

Send us a photo and we'll make you a new one free. No need to send anything back.

Do you do bulk orders for realtors or businesses?

Yes. Email hello@inkedatlas.com for agent and corporate pricing.
